A second man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Twerton has been released without charge.
Police arrested two men, aged 24 and 29, in December over what the force described as a serious assault.
Officers were called to Newton Road on December 15 after reports of an attack which took place between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
The busy road was closed until the evening with investigations ongoing.
