Some 1,600 Bath phone and internet lines are down after a connection point was torched.
Police have appealed for witnesses after the BT cabinet on Upper Bristol Road, near Royal Victoria Park, was set on fire.
The fire which is being treated as deliberate is understood to have left homes and businesses in the area without phone or internet access.
