Elderly home owners in Bath have been warned to be alert to cold-calling after a 95-year-old man was the victim of a distraction burglary attempt.
Police said the pensioner was visited at his home in Bathford by a bogus water company engineer who claimed he needed to check the water supply and asked for £45 cash up front.
But he left when the owner became suspicious and asked to call his boss.
